Stearns County, MN – A tragic semi-truck crash on Interstate 94 in Sauk Centre Township claimed the life of a 60-year-old Illinois man late Tuesday night, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred at milepost 124 at approximately 11:34 p.m. on February 18, 2025. The 2024 Freightliner semi-truck, driven by David Allen Elders of Joliet, IL, was traveling westbound on I-94 when it left the roadway, entered the south ditch, and overturned onto its side.
Driver Killed, Passenger Survives
David Allen Elders, the truck’s driver, sustained fatal injuries at the scene. His passenger, 61-year-old Kim Evelyn Elders, also of Joliet, IL, suffered non-life-threatening injuries but did not require transport to a hospital.
Authorities confirmed that both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Emergency Response and Road Conditions
The Sauk Centre Police Department, Fire Department, and Ambulance Services responded to the scene. Road conditions at the time were reported as dry, and there were no other vehicles involved.
The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
