Fargo Man Charged in Bedroom Window Stabbing

FARGO, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) — A Fargo man faces a felony assault charge after an alleged stabbing early Tuesday.

David Alan Vernoy is charged in Cass County District Court with aggravated assault using a dangerous weapon. The charge is a Class C felony.

Police Called To Fargo Home

Police were called around 2:12 a.m. August 11 to a home on 16½ Street South. The call reported that a man had been stabbed.

Officers found the injured man standing in a nearby intersection and holding his stomach. Police said he had two small cuts near the center of his stomach.

The man was taken to a Fargo hospital for treatment. His wounds were closed with staples, according to the incident report.

The victim told police he had been sitting in a bedroom with his girlfriend. They then heard someone knocking on several windows.

The girlfriend told the victim to hide, according to the report. Police said Vernoy then climbed through the bedroom window.

Victim Describes Alleged Attack

The victim told officers that Vernoy appeared intoxicated. He also said Vernoy threatened to stab him before the fight began.

The victim said he punched Vernoy while trying to defend himself. He first believed Vernoy was punching him in the stomach.

The victim later saw blood and realized he had been stabbed, according to police.

Investigators said the victim believed jealousy caused the attack. Vernoy had previously dated the woman, according to the victim.

The victim said Vernoy had caused problems after the new relationship began.

Police Review Phone Records

Police said Vernoy gave a different account. He told officers the two men had planned to fight.

An officer checked the victim’s phone during the investigation. Police said there were no calls or text messages between the men.

The phone also showed Vernoy’s number had been blocked, according to the report.

The original report said Vernoy remained in the Cass County Jail. It also said he was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday afternoon.
