FAA Launches Investigation into Green Laser Incident Involving Aircraft Crew

FARGO, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated a probe into a concerning incident involving the crew of a Pilatus PC-12 aircraft and an individual using a green laser. According to authorities, the unsettling event unfolded around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9th, at an altitude of 3,500 feet, approximately 8 miles from Hector International Airport.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident, and local law enforcement agencies were promptly notified.

The occurrence underscores a growing concern as laser strikes on aircraft have been on the rise. In 2023 alone, pilots reported a staggering 13,304 incidents of laser strikes. Shockingly, 313 pilots have reported sustaining injuries from laser strikes to the FAA since 2010.

To combat this dangerous trend, the FAA imposes hefty fines on individuals who engage in such reckless behavior. Those caught pointing lasers at aircraft can face fines of up to $11,000 per violation, with penalties reaching up to $30,800 for multiple laser incidents.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities urge the public to recognize the serious consequences of targeting aircraft with lasers and emphasize the importance of aviation safety.
