it was a strange sequence of events that led up to a balcony collapse that injured five people at this apartment complex at 3880 Garden View Drive in Grand Forks early Saturday morning this is a block and a half east of the Alerus Center and can add in complex the first emergency call came in at 2:16 a.m. 3880 Garden View for four people stuck in an elevator there is no injuries but the reporting party says it’s very warm they’ve been in there about 20 minutes then while emergency crews were already on the scene freeing people from a stuck elevator in this building a fourth floor balcony collapsed injuring five people I [Music] spoke with a neighbor who lives directly below where the balcony collapsed but you think there was a party going on there wasn’t comedy it’s not a my kind of thinking that wasn’t funny going on up there he says he woke up after hearing all the commotion after the balcony collapsed authorities haven’t released the condition or names of the five people injured but a quick look at medical studies regarding a fall from 30 feet show severe injuries can occur from a fall of that height what’s sure to come under scrutiny here is a construction of the balconies and whether or not they’re up to code in Grand Forks I’m Neil Berg reporting for I news TV
