Exclusive Update: Shots Fired Target Backyard of Murder Suspect’s Mother in Grand Forks

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) A relative says the target of shots fired in Grand Forks Sunday was the backyard of a murder suspect’s mother.
Neil Berg here in grand forks at the corner of campbell drive and 12th street just off south washington street learning a lot more about shots fired here uh late uh sunday afternoon just talked with a relative of the person who lives here who says the person who lives here is the mother of valentin mendoza the man charged with killing two people in a crash last year mendoza has pled not guilty to two counts of second-degree murder after uh allegedly intentionally driving his truck into another vehicle that killed two young men in east grand forks in june of 2021 ethan carson and damien powell now a relative of mendoza says police found more than a dozen gunshots through the fence backyard fence of his mother’s home here in grand forks yeah it sounds like they found 13 shell casings on the road okay any idea what motivated this then no nobody knows okay assuming it has something to do with valentine but we’re not you know positively sure but okay were there kids in the backyard yeah my little nephew was playing out in the backyard and if you would have stood up you would have got a bullet in the head really yeah so one child was playing in the backyard yeah well there were several kids in the backyard but he was one closest to that fence on the other side over here okay and the bullet went right right above his head all right so you think they just drive by or parked on the street or who assuming they parked on the road because all the shell casings were in the same area okay so they probably parked on the road emptied their nine millimeter and now it appears there’s also bullet holes in the next door neighbors garage and another home next door we’re still waiting for more information from police we’ll have that for you as soon as it’s available i’m Neil Berg reporting for trfnews.i234.me
