Eden Prairie Woman Sentenced to 2 Years for Embezzling Over $1 Million from Edina Employer

MINNEAPOLIS (trfnews.i234.me)An Eden Prairie woman has been sentenced to two years in prison for embezzling more than $1.1 million from her employer over a span of seven years. Monica Svobodny, 52, served as the Supply Chain and Engineering Manager at an Edina-based furniture manufacturing company, where she used company credit cards to fund personal luxuries such as designer clothing, spa treatments, and luxury hotel stays.

To conceal her fraudulent activities, Svobodny left unauthorized charges as “pending” and used PayPal to transfer funds from company accounts to herself more than 300 times. She also altered transaction receipts and falsely labeled expenses for a defunct company.

Svobodny pleaded guilty to wire fraud in April 2024 and was sentenced to 24 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay $1,137,404 in restitution. The case was investigated by the Edina Police Department with support from the FBI.
