East Grand Forks Resident Faces Felony Strangulation Charge

East Grand Forks (trfnews.i234.me) — Faith Diamond Gomez faces two domestic assault charges in Polk County District Court.

Court documents accuse Gomez of assaulting a teenage family member on August 11, 2026.

The case is filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District under court file 60-CR-26-1319.

Two Domestic Assault Charges Filed

Prosecutors charged Gomez with felony domestic assault by strangulation.

The charge carries up to three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

She also faces one misdemeanor count of domestic assault.

That charge carries up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

More information about the felony law is available through the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes.

Complaint Describes Alleged Kitchen Confrontation

According to the complaint, Gomez contacted East Grand Forks police about a teenage family member who left home.

Gomez reportedly told police the two had been involved in a physical confrontation.

Police later found the teenager at another residence.

The teen told investigators an argument had continued inside the family’s East Grand Forks home.

The complaint says Gomez allegedly approached the teen from behind near the kitchen sink.

Prosecutors allege Gomez then placed both hands around the teen’s neck.

The teenager told investigators she could not breathe during the alleged assault.

Investigators also reported seeing red marks on the teen’s neck and back.

Another person told police the teenager had described being choked from behind.

The complaint says that account was consistent with the teenager’s earlier statement.

Gomez Describes Physical Contact

Gomez later spoke with police by phone.

The complaint says she admitted “forcefully” putting her hands on the teenager.

Gomez reportedly said she was trying to move the teen into a bedroom.

She also said the teen had been scratching and grabbing her.

The complaint says Gomez could not recall their exact positions before the physical contact.

She suggested the neck marks could have occurred while moving the teen toward the bedroom.

Case Pending in Polk County Court

Minnesota law classifies domestic assault by strangulation as a felony involving a family or household member.

The law includes intentionally blocking normal breathing or blood circulation through pressure on the neck.

The misdemeanor statute covers intentional bodily harm or an attempt to cause bodily harm.

Readers can review that law through the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes.

Information about the court is available from the Minnesota Judicial Branch.

A criminal complaint contains allegations and does not establish guilt.

Gomez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
