East Grand Forks: Akins Faces 3 Felony Sex Charges

East Grand Forks (trfnews.i234.me) — Kristian Michael Akins faces three felony charges in Polk County.

The charges followed an investigation at Sherlock Park on July 23, 2026.

Akins is accused of sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl between July 10 and July 23.

The allegations are contained in a criminal complaint filed in Minnesota District Court.

Police Respond to Sherlock Park

Police were called to Sherlock Park at about 9:37 p.m.

A caller reported two people together near evergreen trees, according to the complaint.

Officers found Akins and a 13-year-old girl near a tree.

Both initially denied sexual activity, the complaint states.

Akins allowed an officer to examine his cellphone while investigating their account.

Police reported finding messages showing a personal relationship between Akins and the girl.

The complaint also alleges officers found sexually explicit images involving both people.

Akins was arrested and taken to the East Grand Forks Police Department.

Statements Detailed in Court Complaint

The girl was later interviewed with her mother present.

She alleged that she and Akins had sexual contact several times after meeting earlier that month.

The complaint says she told investigators Akins knew she was 13 years old.

Investigators allege Akins also acknowledged knowing that she was young.
