POLK COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A Duluth man was sentenced to 85 months on Tuesday, July 23, for first-degree possession of a controlled substance in Polk County. Jason Michael Carlsness, 41, pleaded guilty to the felony charge, as well as gross misdemeanor third-degree driving while impaired by a controlled substance, in June.
Originally, Carlsness faced additional charges of felony first-degree sale of a controlled substance and gross misdemeanor giving a false name to an officer, but these were dismissed under a plea agreement.
Carlsness has credit for 168 days served in custody. Under the state’s 2/3 rule, he will serve a total of almost 57 months in custody, with the remainder on supervised release. His time in custody will be spent at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
Carlsness was pulled over on Feb. 6, while driving in Crookston. He gave the officer a fake name and showed signs of controlled substance use. After field sobriety tests, the officer determined Carlsness was under the influence and arrested him. Inside his vehicle, the officer found drug paraphernalia, pills, a crystallized rock, a crystallized substance, suspected marijuana, and a tan powdery substance. Suspected methamphetamine, inside its packaging, weighed approximately 110 grams.
