POLK COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Jason Michael Carlsness, 41, of Duluth, admitted guilt to two controlled substance crimes on Thursday, June 13, in Polk County.
Carlsness was pulled over around 12:50 a.m. on February 6 in Crookston after making an improper lane change and driving the wrong way on Main Street. When stopped, he provided a false name and birth date, claiming his identification had been stolen. The officer noticed signs of substance use, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
Following field sobriety tests, Carlsness was arrested for driving while impaired. A search of his vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia, pills, crystallized substances, suspected marijuana, and a tan powdery substance. Tests confirmed methamphetamine and cocaine, with the meth weighing approximately 110 grams.
Carlsness faced two felony charges: first-degree sale and possession of a controlled substance, each carrying a maximum 30-year sentence. Additionally, he was charged with two gross misdemeanors for giving a false name and driving while impaired.
On Thursday, Carlsness pleaded guilty to first-degree controlled substance possession and third-degree driving while impaired. If the plea agreement is accepted, the remaining charges will be dismissed. His sentencing, influenced by his pre-sentence investigation and criminal history, is set for 9 a.m. on July 2.
