DUI Driver Crashes into Police Patrol Vehicle in Grand Forks

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – A driver now charged with DUI crashed into a police patrol vehicle at Gateway Drive and Stanford Road just before 11 p.m. Wednesday. According to police, the incident occurred as a Grand Forks Police Department patrol vehicle was traveling eastbound on Gateway Drive approaching Stanford Road. The patrol vehicle had the green light when a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, traveling westbound, attempted to turn left onto Stanford Road, causing a collision.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene. The driver of the PT Cruiser, 37-year-old Mark Mondor of Grand Forks, was evaluated by paramedics at the scene but declined medical transport. Mondor was cited for failure to yield the right of way and, after further investigation, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

The Grand Forks police officer involved a two-year veteran of the department, was also evaluated by paramedics, and declined medical transport. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the accident is encouraged to contact the Grand Forks Police Department.
