POLK COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Attorneys for Polk County and East Grand Forks Police Sgt. Aeisso Schrage have not responded to questions about differing accounts of the fatal January 9 shooting of Lucas Paul Gilbertson. On Friday, Sept. 13, the Polk County Attorney’s Office cleared Schrage of wrongdoing in the incident, but a Herald reader noted discrepancies between the county’s narrative and Schrage’s own account in a civil lawsuit filed by Gilbertson’s father.
Gilbertson, 42, had been evading law enforcement for months due to alleged supervised release violations. When officers located him at a residence in Rhinehart Township, Gilbertson allegedly pointed a gun at Schrage. Schrage deployed his Taser, missed, and then shot Gilbertson four times. However, accounts differ on whether Gilbertson ducked toward a shattered window or charged at Schrage before the shooting.
As the civil case continues, clarification on these discrepancies is awaited. The incident remains under investigation, with requests for further documentation pending.
