Dilworth, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — Ashley Elaine Scott faces two theft charges in Clay County District Court.
The charges follow a reported vehicle break-in outside the Dilworth Walmart on December 24, 2025.
Scott is charged with felony theft and gross misdemeanor theft.
The complaint says the stolen property was valued at about $1,345.
Items Reported Missing From Vehicle
According to the complaint, police responded to the Walmart parking lot after receiving a vehicle break-in report.
The victim said she entered the store and later returned to her vehicle.
She then discovered several personal items were missing, according to the complaint.
The missing property included clothing recently purchased at West Acres Mall.
A diaper bag and its contents were also reported stolen.
The total estimated value of the missing items was $1,345.
Surveillance Video Reviewed
Police obtained surveillance video with help from Walmart asset protection staff.
The complaint says the video showed a person wearing a red shirt approaching the victim’s vehicle.
That person appeared to enter the vehicle before leaving in another vehicle parked nearby.
Investigators also reviewed additional store video showing the person’s face more clearly.
The complaint says investigators compared those images with earlier booking photographs.
Authorities identified the person shown in the video as Ashley Elaine Scott, according to the complaint.
Felony and Gross Misdemeanor Charges Filed
The felony theft count carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
It also carries a possible fine of up to $10,000.
The gross misdemeanor count carries up to 364 days in jail.
That count also carries a possible fine of up to $3,000.
Both counts allege Scott took property without the owner’s consent.
Prosecutors also allege there was intent to permanently deprive the owner of the property.
