THIEF RIVER FALLS, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – In a strategic move, electronic parts distributor DigiKey is reportedly transferring a portion of its operations to India, raising questions about its impact on the global job market.
Here’s the unfolding story:
- Expansion Strategy: DigiKey, known for its vast selection of electronic components, is expanding its reach by establishing a Global Capability Center in Bengaluru, India. This move is part of the company’s efforts to enhance its technological capabilities and support critical business initiatives.
- Job Migration: While specifics about the extent of job migration remain undisclosed, the launch of the Global Capability Center suggests that DigiKey is relocating certain operations to India. This shift raises questions about potential job displacement in its existing locations.
- Company Growth: DigiKey’s move comes on the heels of its impressive growth, marked by the addition of over 450 new suppliers and 1.7 million new parts in 2023. The company’s expansion indicates a commitment to meeting evolving market demands and maintaining its position as a leading electronic components distributor.
- Global Impact: The relocation of jobs to India underscores the interconnected nature of the global workforce. While it may bolster DigiKey’s operational efficiency and innovation capabilities, it also raises concerns about job stability and economic implications in regions where operations are scaled back.
As DigiKey navigates this transition, stakeholders await further details on the impact of this strategic move on its workforce and the broader electronics industry.
This is the trend.
Obviously, they’ve never called one of those call centers.
Express Pros still sending people to Digi Key … $21 per hour and housing paid for
Wow … Crazy thing is a lot of the office employees actually trained in the warehouse last year … 2 or 3 hours per day … Being trained for picking and packing
They called it “The Second Skill Initiative”
Ifinwhen
Yup…makes sense…move all the phone jobs to India eventually and then move phone people to the warehouse instead.
Sounds like they’re trying to save a few bucks. Amazon did the same thing with their seller support branch and their seller experience tanked!

“Our research shows that clients do not like being able to understand our representatives.”
Wow. Thief River Falls bent over backwards for Digi Key, building more apts., altering the airport for UPS and FedEx jets to come in there specifically for Digi Key packages. This is going to greatly change Thief River and the employees there and not for the good I fear. As a former employee who retired from Digi Key after 28 years, I am stunned. I don’t think this is good at all. I better stop here and not say anymore.
Digi Key used to be very customer service oriented. Used to be are the key words.
