Detroit Lakes, Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — Bianca Ann Sampson, 34, of Detroit Lakes, is charged.

Police cite a January 14, 2026, traffic stop.

Charge filed

Sampson faces one felony count of fifth-degree controlled substance crime.

The complaint cites Minnesota Statute 152.025, subdivision 2(a)(1).

The allegation involves possession of a Schedule I, II, III, or IV substance.

The charge excludes cannabis and hemp.

Details of the stop

The complaint says an officer was on patrol.

He saw a vehicle traveling north in Detroit Lakes.

Police say a towel covered most of the passenger-side window.

They say the towel blocked the driver’s visibility.

The officer stopped the vehicle.

Police identified the driver and the passenger, Bianca Ann Sampson.

Police say the driver had an active arrest warrant.

Officers then searched the vehicle, according to court records.

What police say they found

Police say they located Sampson’s purse in the passenger area.

Inside, they reported finding a tube used for drug use.

Police say a white, crystal-like rock was inside the tube.

A field test indicated the substance was methamphetamine.

The complaint lists the recovered amount as about 0.03 grams.

That weight did not include packaging.

Sampson was taken into custody on the new charge, according to the complaint.

Interview and prior record

Police say Sampson first claimed the driver placed the drugs in her purse.

Later, investigators interviewed her at the jail.

They say she was advised of her rights first.

During that later interview, police say she admitted using drugs earlier the same day.

Court records also indicate she has a prior first-degree controlled substance conviction.

Bail and next steps

Judge Gretchen D. Thilmony set bail at $1,000 with conditions.

Court records list an alternative $10,000 non-cash bond with conditions.

They also list a $20,000 bond or cash option without conditions.

Conditions for the lower bail include remaining law-abiding and appearing for all court dates.

An order of detention was signed on January 16, 2026.

A criminal charge is an allegation.

The case remains pending in the district court.
