Detroit Lakes Walmart Burglary Charge Filed
Detroit Lakes (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead woman is facing a felony burglary charge in Becker County District Court after an alleged theft at Walmart in Detroit Lakes.
According to a criminal complaint, Neka Joy Sargent, 33, of Moorhead, has been charged with third-degree burglary. The case was filed in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District under court file number 03-CR-26-588.
The charge stems from an alleged incident on or about February 8, 2026. Court documents state Sargent entered Walmart in Detroit Lakes without consent. Prosecutors allege she intended to steal or commit another felony or gross misdemeanor inside the store.
Alleged Theft Reported At Walmart
The complaint says Walmart provided a theft report to the Detroit Lakes Police Department on February 10, 2026. The report claimed Sargent entered the store two days earlier and took three items.
The total value of the items was listed at $38.32. Court documents allege Sargent concealed the items on her person. She then allegedly left the store without paying.

Prior Trespass Notice Cited
Prosecutors say Sargent had previously been trespassed from Walmart. The complaint states that notice followed other alleged thefts in December 2025.
Because of that trespass notice, prosecutors allege Sargent knew she did not have permission to enter the store.
Under Minnesota Statute 609.582, third-degree burglary can apply when someone enters a building without consent and intends to steal or commit certain crimes inside. The statute carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
The case remains an allegation at this stage. Sargent is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
