Detroit Lakes Stop Leads To Charges For Frazee Man
Detroit Lakes (trfnews.i234.me) — A Frazee man is facing charges in Becker County after a traffic stop in Detroit Lakes.
Trey Michael Heinsius, 30, is charged in Becker County District Court with intent to escape taxation. That count is listed as a gross misdemeanor.
Heinsius is also charged with driving after revocation. That charge is listed as a misdemeanor.
The case was filed in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District. Court records list the case number as 03-CR-26-860.
Traffic Stop Reported In Detroit Lakes
According to the court complaint, the stop happened on April 26, 2026. The complaint says it occurred at about 2:02 a.m.
A Becker County deputy reported seeing a gray Ford F-150 in Detroit Lakes. The vehicle was traveling north on Summit Avenue near Forest Street.
The complaint says the vehicle displayed a Minnesota license plate 2NU415. The registration was listed as expired in November 2023.
Charges Filed In Becker County
The driver was identified as Trey Michael Heinsius. The complaint says his driving privilege was revoked at the time.
Authorities allege Heinsius said the vehicle belonged to him. He also allegedly said it had not been registered since 2023.
According to the complaint, Heinsius said he had not changed his driver’s license address.
Prosecutors cite Minnesota Statute 168.35 for the gross misdemeanor count. That law covers the intent to escape motor vehicle tax.
The gross misdemeanor charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail. It also carries a possible $3,000 fine.
Prosecutors also cite Minnesota Statute 171.24 for driving after revocation.
That misdemeanor charge carries a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail. It also carries a possible $1,000 fine.
