A Moorhead man was sentenced for felony theft after a Walmart case in Detroit Lakes.

Christopher James Lussier, 42, of Moorhead, pleaded guilty to one felony theft count, court records show.

A second felony theft count was dismissed under a plea deal.

What happened

Court records say the theft happened on May 25, 2024, at the Walmart in Detroit Lakes.

Records say Lussier pushed a cart of items past the last checkout points.

The total value was about $589, according to the record.

A store employee asked to see a receipt at the exit door.

Records say Lussier kept walking and left without paying.

Prosecutors also cited a 2021 felony conviction for financial transaction card fraud.

Sentence and probation terms

On Nov. 25, Becker County District Judge Gretchen Thilmony imposed a 13-month prison sentence.

The judge stayed the prison term for five years.

That means Lussier must follow probation rules to avoid prison.

The judge also ordered 66 days in jail.

Court records show he received credit for 66 days already served.

The court ordered a $500 fine.

The court also ordered $160 in fees and $1,102 in restitution.

As probation conditions, the court ordered him to avoid alcohol and illegal drugs.

He must not use drugs without a prescription.

He must complete cognitive skills training when directed.

He must also follow cognitive behavioral programming when told.

He must complete a mental health evaluation.

He must follow any aftercare plan that providers recommend.
