Detroit Lakes, Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Detroit Lakes man faces two felony DWI counts.

Samuel Allen Stone, 65, is charged with two counts of first-degree DWI in Becker County District Court.

What prosecutors allege

Court records say a hit-and-run crash happened on December 1, 2025.

The crash was reported during the afternoon in Detroit Lakes.

A witness saw the crash and followed the suspect vehicle.

The witness shared the license plate number with a dispatcher, records say.

An officer later spotted the vehicle and stopped it on Oak Street East.

Records describe a strong odor of alcohol during the stop.

The complaint says Stone’s eyes looked red and watery.

It also says his speech sounded slurred.

Stone told officers he did not have a driver’s license, according to the complaint.

Investigators reported damage to the vehicle’s front left fender.

When asked about the crash, Stone first blamed another driver, records say.

He later admitted the crash was his fault, according to the complaint.

Stone told officers he drank about four beers, court records say.

He later said he drank too much, according to the complaint.

He was taken to jail after the traffic stop.

Records say he refused a breath test for alcohol.
