A Bagley woman faces a gross misdemeanor counterfeiting charge in Becker County.

Shauna Rae Lafriniere, 37, is accused of using a fake $100 bill in Detroit Lakes.

Court records say the purchase happened at a Holiday gas station.

The incident is listed at about 12:37 a.m. on October 3, 2025.

What police allege

The complaint says a man and a woman entered the store together.

The woman tried to pay for items with a $100 bill.

An employee ran the bill through a security safe.

The safe rejected the bill several times, police said.

The woman said the bill had “gone through the wash,” records state.

The employee accepted the bill anyway, according to the report.

Later, the bill was taken to a bank for review.

Bank staff said the note was not real U.S. currency.

The words “For Motion Picture Use Only” appeared on both sides.

Police said the wording was clear and easy to read.

Police then identified Lafriniere as the suspect, according to the complaint.
