Defense Moves to Suppress Key Evidence in Thief River Falls Overdose Death Case

Thief River Falls, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Isaac Victor Kalinoski, 35, of Thief River Falls, is facing felony charges of third-degree murder and third-degree controlled substance crime following the fatal overdose of Hailey Ann Czapiewski, 28, on November 28th. The charges stem from allegations that Kalinoski supplied Czapiewski with fentanyl, leading to her death.

Kalinoski, who initially bailed out of jail, was rearrested after allegedly violating his release conditions by possessing methamphetamine and fentanyl. The defense, led by attorney Eric Gudmundson, is now seeking to suppress part of Kalinoski’s third statement to law enforcement, arguing that officers continued questioning him after he requested an attorney during a January 30th interrogation.

On August 6th, Judge Tamara Yon heard testimony regarding the disputed statement, focusing on a discrepancy between the interrogation transcript and audio recording. The case continues to unfold as the court considers the defense’s motion and additional evidence related to the tragic overdose.
