GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – A Special Election Has Been Triggered in Itasca County After Voters Elected Michael “Burl” Ives to Fill the Open Commissioner Seat.
Michael “Burl” Ives passed away at 57 years old back in September.
At the time of his death, he was serving as the Itasca County Commissioner for District 4.
Despite being deceased, Ives won his race against Brian Oftelie by more than 2,000 votes on Tuesday.
As a result, it has triggered a special election to fill the vacant seat.
County leaders indicate that the timing of this special election will depend on how many candidates decide to run.
