Daycare Provider Charged with Child Neglect: Allegedly Left Children Unattended

BEMIDJI, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Samantha Ann Matthees, a 33-year-old daycare provider residing at 3531 Tamarak Avenue Northwest, has been charged with three felony counts of child neglect, shocking the community and raising concerns about childcare safety.

According to the Beltrami County Attorney’s rendition of charges, investigations by Beltrami County Child Protection revealed disturbing negligence allegations against Mathy. A tipster reported observing Mathy leaving her home during daycare hours, leaving the children unattended for 10 to 15 minutes multiple times. Concerns were exacerbated as no other adults were observed on the premises during these times.

Further scrutiny revealed instances where Mathy allegedly left the children unattended on February 7th and March 20th, 2024, with her husband not scheduled to provide care. Surveillance footage from a local liquor store showed Mathy purchasing alcohol during daycare hours, contradicting her initial denial of neglect.

Upon questioning, Mathy admitted to leaving the daycare unsupervised, citing a drinking problem and claiming she monitored the children remotely via a security camera app.

Now facing severe legal consequences, Mathy’s case underscores the critical importance of stringent childcare regulations and vigilant oversight to ensure the safety and well-being of children under daycare supervision.

  1. Damn. She couldn’t WAIT?! If she was going WHILE working she must have been drinking WHILE working already or was planning to. Thankfully someone had enough consideration for the kids in her care to make a call. She does NOT have their safety as a priority. No more daycare for her. I wouldn’t allow her to watch my PLANTS. Period.
