Dallas Twin Doctors Sentenced for $45M Fake Pain Injection Fraud Scheme

DALLAS (trfnews.i234.me) – Two twin doctors from Dallas, Desi and Deno Barroga, have been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in federal prison for orchestrating a $45 million healthcare fraud scheme. Operating from a pain management clinic on Greenville Ave., the brothers defrauded insurance companies by submitting fraudulent claims for corticosteroid injections that were never administered. Instead, they pantomimed injections without ever piercing patients’ skin.

Their clinic, funded by major insurers like Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Healthcare, saw thousands of patients monthly. The Barrogas pleaded guilty in May 2024 to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, admitting they billed insurers for millions and received $9 million in payouts. In addition to their prison sentences, they were ordered to pay $9 million in restitution, surrender their DEA registrations, and forfeit their medical licenses. The case serves as a stark reminder of the lengths some will go to exploit the healthcare system.
