Dakota County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — A 36-year-old man has been charged with second-degree intentional murder after allegedly shooting and killing his 72-year-old roommate in their South St. Paul apartment on Friday, April 11.
According to court documents, Jacob John Audie called 911 at approximately 8:48 p.m., stating he had shot his roommate, Michael Maurice Schille, and that the firearm was on the couch. Responding officers found Audie in the parking lot of the residence near Thompson Avenue and 12th Avenue North. He was taken into custody without incident.
Inside the apartment, officers discovered Schille deceased on a couch in the southwest bedroom, with a gunshot wound to the left side of his face. A television remote was still in his hand. An AR-style rifle was found leaning against the living room couch, with a live round next to it. Additional evidence included a rifle magazine on the kitchen table, another in the back bedroom, and an empty carbine casing near the victim.
Audie allegedly admitted to shooting Schille with Schille’s own AR-15 rifle, then unloading the gun and placing the magazine and round where officers later found them. He stated he had lived with Schille for one to two years, assisting in his care and maintaining the apartment.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Schille died from a gunshot wound to the head, ruling the death a homicide.
Audie, originally from Hudson, Wisconsin, appeared in court on Monday, April 14. His bail was set at $1 million without conditions or $750,000 with conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 21.
