Crookston Woman Faces Two Felony Drug Charges

Crookston (trfnews.i234.me) — Kayla Joann Olson faces two felony drug charges in Polk County District Court.

Prosecutors accuse Olson of possessing several controlled prescription drugs without a valid prescription.

She also faces a charge involving an alleged attempt to purchase methamphetamine.

The alleged offenses happened on August 20, 2026, in Crookston.

Messages Lead to Meeting

The investigation began after law enforcement received a Facebook call from Olson, according to the complaint.

Investigators say Olson then exchanged messages about obtaining .40 grams of a controlled substance.

The conversation eventually led to a planned meeting behind Ampride in Crookston.

Authorities say Olson traveled to the meeting location on a purple moped.

Investigators approached Olson after she arrived behind the business.

The complaint says Olson initially denied arriving to purchase methamphetamine.

She later allegedly acknowledged that she came to buy meth.

Authorities arrested Olson and searched her bag and wallet, according to the complaint.

Investigators reported finding $40 separated from other cash inside her wallet.

They also found an unmarked pill container containing several different medications.

Olson allegedly could not provide a prescription for the pills.

The complaint identifies the pills as buprenorphine, alprazolam, clonazepam and diazepam.

Those medications are controlled substances under Minnesota law.

Authorities also reported finding a small container holding a white crystal-like substance.

A field test reportedly indicated the substance contained methamphetamine.

After receiving a Miranda warning, Olson agreed to speak with investigators.

The complaint says she admitted traveling to Ampride to purchase methamphetamine.

She also allegedly said she did not have prescriptions for the loose pills.

Prosecutors cite prior controlled-substance convictions when describing the possible penalty for the first count.

The first felony carries up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The second count carries up to two-and-a-half years and a $5,000 fine.

The law covers unlawful possession of many Schedule I, II, III and IV controlled substances.

The case is filed as State of Minnesota v. Kayla Joann Olson.

The court file number is 60-CR-26-1233 in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.

The criminal complaint contains allegations and does not establish Olson’s guilt.

Olson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
