Crookston Woman Charged With Repeat DWI Offense

Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Mahnomen woman is facing new criminal charges after authorities say she was arrested for impaired driving in Crookston.

Candace Rae Watson, 39, of Mahnomen, is charged in Polk County District Court with second-degree driving while impaired and an ignition interlock driving restriction violation.

The charges were filed in connection with an incident reported on July 13, 2026, in Crookston, Minnesota.

Traffic Stop Leads To DWI Arrest

According to the criminal complaint, a vehicle was observed traveling slowly in a 45 mph zone near University Avenue.

The vehicle was reportedly moving between 10 and 15 mph and crossed lane markings several times.

Authorities said the driver was identified as Candace Watson. She reportedly told officials she was lost and trying to drive home to Mahnomen.

The complaint states Watson had been at a casino in Thief River Falls and said her GPS was not working.

Officials reported signs of possible impairment, including bloodshot eyes, watery eyes, slurred speech, and an odor of alcohol.

Breath Test Shows Elevated Alcohol Level

The complaint states Watson completed several field sobriety tests during the investigation.

Authorities reported concerns with balance, following instructions, and coordination during the tests.

A preliminary breath test reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of .147.

After being taken into custody, Watson agreed to an official breath test.

The complaint states two samples were collected, with a final result of .14 grams per 210 liters.

Previous DWI History Cited

Prosecutors allege Watson had two prior qualified impaired driving incidents within the required time period.

The complaint lists prior cases from 2016 and 2024.

Because of the previous impaired driving history, the current charge is classified as a gross misdemeanor.

Authorities also allege Watson was driving a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device.

The complaint states Watson had a restricted driver’s license requiring the device.

The vehicle she was operating was reportedly a loaner vehicle while her own vehicle was being repaired.

Court Case Pending

Watson’s case is filed in Polk County District Court.

The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
