Crookston Warrant Issued in Felony Court Case

CROOKSTON, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man faces a felony charge after allegedly missing a required court hearing.

Roberto Carlos Lopez Jr., 23, is charged with felony failure to appear in Polk County District Court.

The charge was filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District under Court File No. 60-CR-26-541.

A warrant has also been issued for Lopez, according to the criminal complaint.

Earlier Felony Property Case

The complaint says Lopez appeared in Polk County District Court on May 29, 2025.

That appearance involved a separate first-degree criminal damage to property charge.

The earlier charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. It also carries a possible $10,000 fine.

The court set bail at $800 cash or an $8,000 bond.

Lopez was released under several court conditions. Those conditions required him to attend all future hearings.

Court records also warned that missing a hearing could lead to another charge or an arrest warrant.

The probable cause statement says Lopez missed a scheduled hearing on December 11, 2025.

A judge then issued a warrant for his arrest.

The complaint says Lopez’s location was unknown when the document was prepared. It also lists him under active warrant status.

The formal charge section lists an offense date of May 15, 2025. However, the probable cause section identifies December 11, 2025.

The reason for the difference was not explained in the complaint.

A felony failure-to-appear conviction may bring up to 30 months in prison. It may also bring a $5,000 fine.

The complaint also describes several cases involving Lopez in North Dakota and Texas.

It lists a Grand Forks disorderly conduct and failure-to-appear conviction from March 2025.

A simple assault case in Grand Forks County is also listed with an active warrant.

Two pending Texas cases are also included. Those cases involve theft, marijuana possession, and evading detention allegations.

Charges are allegations. Lopez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
