Crookston Man Faces DWI Charges With Children Inside

Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) — Antonio Dashon Atkins, 30, of Crookston, is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop that led to allegations of impaired driving, refusing testing, and child safety violations.

Traffic Stop Leads To Multiple Charges

According to a criminal complaint filed in Polk County District Court, the incident happened on July 1, 2026, in Crookston.

Authorities say Atkins was stopped after a vehicle registration check raised concerns about the driver’s license status. Court documents state Atkins was found to have a revoked Minnesota driving privilege.

The complaint alleges officers noticed signs of possible alcohol impairment during the stop. It states Atkins had bloodshot eyes, watery eyes, slurred speech, and the smell of alcohol on his person.

Atkins allegedly denied drinking alcohol. The complaint says he was asked to complete field sobriety testing but refused several portions of the testing.

Breath Test And Search Warrant Allegations

Court records state Atkins later provided breath samples at the Northwest Regional Corrections Center. The complaint says the recorded readings were 0.179, 0.162, and 0.172.

The complaint states the testing machine reported a control issue. A search warrant was then obtained for a blood or urine sample.

According to the complaint, Atkins refused to provide a blood sample and did not provide a urine sample after repeated requests.

Children Were In Vehicle, Complaint Says

The charges include allegations involving two children who were passengers in the vehicle. Court documents state the children were ages three months and two years old.

The complaint alleges the children were not properly secured in child safety seats. It also alleges seat belt violations involving the vehicle occupants.

Charges Filed In Polk County Court

Atkins is charged with second-degree driving while impaired, second-degree refusal to submit to testing, driving after revocation, and several child passenger restraint and seat belt violations.

The complaint lists the charges as allegations. A criminal charge is not a conviction, and Atkins is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
