Chilly Thursday Evening Forecast in Grand Forks

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) Your Thursday evening weather forecast from UND’s Atmospheric Sciences in Grand Forks.
good evening and welcome to und’s weather update my name is dylan vogt starting us off with a photo of the day you might have noticed some sunshine but there’s kind of a hazy sunshine that’s due to those northwest winds that light snow we got last night those winds pushed up some of those snow and ice particles into parts of the atmosphere it’s kind of causing us giving us that haze throughout the afternoon hours earlier today right now though you can see that sunshine out there sitting at 10 degrees not really much snow falling northwest wind at 18 miles an hour bring that windshield to a chilly minus eight temperature change the past 24 hours since that cold front pushed through everybody has cooled off 16 degrees cooler than we were yesterday here in fargo and grand forks 15 degrees cooler in minneapolis those temperatures outside right now it’s chilly everybody’s in the double digits a few people are unfortunate to be in the single digits bemidji at eight degrees in my not eight eight degrees all over the northern north dakota really chilly right now and they’re only gonna get colder as we go throughout the weekend right wind chill right now everybody below zero in the northern half of the viewing area as you head south you might be lucky enough to be above zero but marshall down there below zero at minus two for their wind chill weather hazards with those cold winds and those strong those cold temperatures rather and those strong winds there’s a wind chill watch in these shaded counties here that’s in effect until next tuesday at 12 p.m we’re expecting these temperatures to continue into early next week and those strong winds aren’t going to go anywhere at least for the beginning part of the weekend either national satellite and radar here’s that snow system that didn’t really affect us here in the valley but southeastern minnesota and northern iowa definitely saw some snow earlier today and last night but now what we’re left with here is a high pressure system and a few lingering clouds behind this system and those winds of course are going to persist as we go we’ll check that out in the future cast in a little bit for forecast headlines pretty much just cold getting colder and those winds are going to continue and if you add these two together dangerous wind chills is your answer we’ll see that here in a little bit for futurecast big story here are those strong northwest winds throughout the night tonight into the day tomorrow you can see those winds are just going to persist we could see some cloud cover tomorrow morning into tomorrow afternoon but for most of us we should stay clear with those strong northwest winds bringing us some cooler air throughout the day tomorrow look at those future wind chill temperatures seeing how cold we’re actually going to get as we go throughout the day tomorrow into tomorrow right around lunchtime minus 20 degrees for our wind chill here in grand forks minus 27 in minot dangerous wind chills but they’re going to get worse as we head into saturday saturday morning you might have seen a few minus 40s but saturday around lunchtime minus 39 for the windshield and grand forks minus 41 in brainerd minus 32 degrees of a wind chill in duluth moving into super bowl sunday those wind chills don’t go away minus 41 degrees for a windchill in grand forks minus 43 in minot all of minnesota minus 30 degrees or colder for those wind chills on a sunday tonight though in grand forks we are going to stay a little bit warmer getting colder though those winds are persisting winds on the northwest of 15 to 20 a gusting up to 25. looking at tonight throughout the region most of everybody is below zero but a couple people are above zero here in the southern part of the viewing area moving on into tomorrow five degrees for our high temperature which is relatively high compared to the rest of the seven day forecast cold and it’s our last day above zero winds on the northwest at 15 to 20 a gusting up to 30 miles an hour future weather for tomorrow everybody is above zero for tomorrow these blowing snow graphics for blowing snow not actual snow falling from the sky and over here some double digits as you head to the southern part of the viewing area finally for our seven day forecast starting off warm five degrees for tomorrow but as we head into the weekend temperatures drop below zero and they stay there as we head into early or late next week super bowl sunday looks like it’s the coldest day of the group minus nine and those low temperatures sitting in the minus teens to minus twenties throughout the next week
