Charges Upgraded to Homicide in Tragic Grand Forks Airport Crash

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Charges against Travis Bell of Fordville, North Dakota, have been upgraded to criminal vehicular homicide after a child involved in a deadly crash near Grand Forks Airport succumbed to her injuries. The incident occurred at 6:41 p.m. on Monday when Bell’s Ram pickup truck crashed into a Ford Focus stopped at a traffic light on Highway 2. The driver, a 26-year-old woman from the airbase, and her 5-year-old passenger were both seriously injured.

According to the criminal complaint, Bell claimed he thought he had a green light but couldn’t remember much of the incident. A witness reported that Bell did not slow down before the collision. A field sobriety test indicated that Bell had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.12, above the legal limit of 0.08. Initially charged with criminal vehicular injury, Bell now faces additional charges of criminal vehicular homicide, a Class A felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, and criminal vehicular injury, a Class C felony with a maximum five-year sentence.
