Charges Filed in Grand Forks Mall Shooting Incident

a felony charge and more has now been filed against a grand forks man after an accidental gunfire at the grand city’s mall on may 18th that caused the temporary evacuation of the mall uh 37 year old michael hale has been charged with felony reckless endangerment and misdemeanor discharge of a firearm within city limits now here are details of reading from the criminal complaint quote on a may 18th at 5 26 p.m officers were dispatched to the grand city’s mall for a report of a single gunshot heard inside the mall officers made contact with brothers firearm shop employee michael hale inside the shop hale stated that he was in the back room of the shop with another employee and they were processing new firearms hail stated that he was handling a bold action 308 rifle with scope and bipod attached hail stated that the magazine contained four live rounds and was inserted or seated in the rifle when he was handling it hale stated that initially the action of the rifle was open and there was not around in the chamber hail stead stated that out of habit muscle memory he closed the action of the rifle by moving the bolt forward with his hand hale stated that he extended the legs of the bipod and shouldered the rifle hail said that he looks to through the scope on the rifle and could see a paper target hanging on the east wall of the shop hale state stated that he placed his finger on the trigger and pulled the trigger hale stated the firearm discharged one time police noted that brothers firearm shop is located in the middle of the mall near the playground and sitting area and at the time of the incident there were numerous people walking about inside the mall including families with small children and that there were numerous children and their families attending a dance class at the nearby dance studio at the time of the incident officers located an entrance hole below the paper target in a cabinet inside the shop and an exit hole on the opposite side of the wall in the walking corridor the second entrance hole across the walking corridor was in the west wall of stingles signature travel firearm and once spent shell casing were recovered and seized as evidence unquote that was from the criminal complaint luckily no one was injured i’m Neil Berg reporting for eye news dot tv
