Detroit Lakes (trfnews.i234.me) – A Casselton, North Dakota, man is facing felony charges in Becker County after authorities say he used worthless checks at a Detroit Lakes store.

According to court records, 41-year-old Jory Myron Iwen is charged with two counts of felony check forgery. Investigators say Iwen visited the L&M Fleet Supply store in Detroit Lakes twice in May and used fraudulent checks to purchase merchandise.

On May 10, Iwen allegedly wrote a check for $1,788.19 that had no value. Three days later, on May 13, he reportedly passed another check worth $7,862.74.

Court documents state that Iwen used the identification of a 38-year-old man from Fargo during the transactions. That Fargo man was later charged with a felony dishonored check in Becker County District Court. However, those charges were dismissed after investigators reviewed store surveillance video. The video showed the man passing the checks was Iwen, not the Fargo resident.

An arrest warrant for Iwen was issued on Aug. 1. Authorities have not said whether he has been taken into custody.

Forgery and check fraud are felony-level crimes in Minnesota that can carry significant prison time and fines if convicted.
