Cass Lake DWI Stop Leads to Two Charges
CASS LAKE — (trfnews.i234.me) — A Brooklyn Center man faces two gross misdemeanor DWI charges after a June traffic stop.
Jon David Michael Clementson is charged in Cass County District Court. The case was filed under court number 11-CR-26-830.
The complaint lists one count of refusing a chemical breath test. It also lists one count of driving while impaired by alcohol.
Both charges stem from an alleged incident on June 11, 2026. Each count carries up to 364 days and a $3,000 fine.
Officer Reports Wide Turn
According to the complaint, a Leech Lake Tribal Police officer was driving west on 164th Street. The officer saw a red Ford Focus turning from 69th Avenue.
The car allegedly entered the wrong lane during a wide turn. The officer reported braking the squad car to avoid a crash.
The officer then stopped the vehicle. Clementson was the only occupant and was driving, according to the complaint.
The complaint says Clementson had bloodshot and watery eyes. It also says his speech was slurred and his coordination appeared poor.
Clementson allegedly said he drank three beers during the previous hour. The officer then asked him to leave the vehicle.

Complaint Alleges Test Refusal
The complaint says Clementson refused field sobriety tests. It says he appeared unsteady and swayed after leaving the car.
He was taken to the Cass County Law Enforcement Center. There, an officer read the breath test advisory twice.
Clementson requested an attorney during the second reading. After receiving a call, he allegedly refused the breath test.
Prior DWI Cases Cited
Prosecutors listed two earlier Beltrami County DWI convictions as aggravating factors. The complaint dates those convictions to 2018 and 2019.
The charges reference Minnesota Statute 169A.20 and Minnesota Statute 169A.25.
Those laws address impaired driving, chemical test refusal, and second-degree DWI offenses.
The case is pending in Cass County District Court.
A criminal complaint contains allegations. Clementson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
