According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP), the crash occurred around 2:33 AM at mile marker 67, when a 2000 Kenworth truck driven by a 72-year-old man from Brainerd, MN, was struck from behind by a commercial vehicle (CMV) hauling a cattle trailer. The impact caused both trucks to come to a stop on the roadway, with the cattle hauler bursting into flames moments later.
The 66-year-old driver from Forrest, Manitoba, managed to escape the burning vehicle before it became fully engulfed. He sustained minor injuries and was transported by Sanford Ambulance to a nearby hospital.
