Cass County Man Charged After Police Chase

Cass County, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Laporte man is facing felony drug charges after authorities say he fled from a vehicle during a police pursuit and was later arrested with methamphetamine.

Lynn Gearld Brown, 47, of Laporte, Minnesota, is charged in Cass County District Court with fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle.

The charges stem from an incident reported on July 8, 2026, in Cass County.

Police Say Passenger Fled During Chase

According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement attempted to stop a vehicle in Cass Lake. The driver allegedly failed to stop, leading to a high-speed pursuit.

Authorities said the vehicle eventually stopped, and the driver ran from the vehicle.

The complaint states Brown was sitting in the front passenger seat during the pursuit. Investigators said Brown appeared to be hiding in the seat before the chase began.

Officials said Brown also left the vehicle and ran away on foot after the stop.

The driver was later located nearby. Brown was not found during the initial search.

Arrest Leads To Drug Charge

Later that evening, authorities located Brown in Walker, Minnesota.

According to the complaint, officers recognized Brown as a passenger in another vehicle and stopped the vehicle.

Brown was arrested based on information from the earlier fleeing incident.

During a search after the arrest, authorities say they found a small plastic bag in Brown’s pocket.

The complaint states that the substance inside tested positive for methamphetamine.

The substance and packaging weighed about 1.6 grams, according to court documents.

The complaint also states Brown had multiple cuts on both lower legs when he was arrested.

Previous Drug Convictions Listed

Court records show Brown has previous fifth-degree controlled substance convictions in Cass County.

Those convictions include cases filed in 2021 and 2023.

Brown was also reportedly under supervision for a gross misdemeanor DWI case at the time of the new charges.

The fifth-degree drug charge is a felony under Minnesota law. If convicted, the charge can carry a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.

The fleeing charge is a misdemeanor and carries a possible penalty of up to 90 days in jail and a fine.

All charges are allegations. Brown is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
