BURNSVILLE, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A 16-year-old Burnsville High School student is facing serious legal consequences after allegedly bringing a loaded handgun onto school premises. The Dakota County Attorney’s Office has formally charged the student, who resides in Burnsville, with two felony offenses in juvenile court.

The charges include one count of possession of a dangerous weapon on school property and one count of possession of a firearm or ammunition by an ineligible person. The severity of the charges reflects the gravity of the situation and underscores the zero-tolerance policy towards weapons in schools.

According to reports, fellow students observed the suspect recording a video of himself with the firearm in a school bathroom. Prompt action by these students led to the incident being reported to school authorities, who swiftly intervened.

Upon being escorted to the dean’s office, school officials discovered the loaded Sig Sauer handgun concealed in the student’s backpack. Law enforcement promptly responded to the scene and secured the weapon, which was fully loaded with 21 rounds.

In a statement, the attorney’s office revealed that the student claimed to have purchased the firearm from an unidentified individual for protection while at school. However, authorities clarified that there were no specific threats directed towards the student or any other individuals.

Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena expressed gratitude for the rapid response of the Burnsville Police Department and praised the decisive actions taken by staff members at Burnsville High School in addressing the alarming situation.
