Manomomen County (trfnews.i234.me) — We now have confirmed details from authorities regarding the fatal crash on Highway 59 that occurred Wednesday afternoon north of Manomomen.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Western Star dump truck was heading southbound, and a Ford Explorer, driven by 33-year-old Jerry Redden of Thief River Falls, was northbound when the two vehicles collided head-on.

Manomomen County Sheriff Josh Gunther has revealed the crash stemmed from a welfare check initiated in Norman County on Redden, who was reportedly suicidal. When deputies approached, Redden fled, sparking a pursuit that moved into Manomomen County via Highway 200, continuing north on Highway 59.

Redden allegedly swerved into the oncoming lane, striking the semi. He was killed at the scene. Fortunately, the semi driver was not injured. His identity has not yet been released.

The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
