Bena (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bena man is facing a gross misdemeanor charge in Cass County after a traffic stop earlier this year, according to a criminal complaint filed in Minnesota District Court.
Court records say Miles Damien-Lee Anderson, 35, of Aitkin, was charged with driving after cancellation that was listed as inimical to public safety. The charge was filed in Cass County District Court under Minnesota Statute 171.24.5.
What the complaint says
According to the complaint, the case stems from a traffic stop on March 15, 2026, in Bena. The complaint says a deputy was on patrol on Cass County Highway 8 when a northbound vehicle passed without working taillights.
The complaint states the vehicle was then stopped. Court documents identify Anderson as the driver. Dispatch later checked his driving status, according to the complaint.
That check showed his license had been canceled as inimical to public safety, the complaint says. Minnesota court records say a driver can face criminal charges for driving after that type of cancellation.
Details from the stop
The complaint says Anderson told law enforcement he did not know why the taillights were not working. He also said he had bought the vehicle the previous weekend.
According to the same filing, the vehicle was registered to Martin Perez. The complaint also says Minnesota DMV records showed Anderson’s license was canceled at the time of the stop.
Anderson now faces one gross misdemeanor count. The listed maximum penalty is 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both, according to the complaint.
Case status
The charge is an allegation, not a conviction. The case will move through Cass County District Court unless it is resolved earlier through a plea or dismissal.
Readers can review Minnesota court information through the Minnesota Judicial Branch. The statute tied to the charge can be found through the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes.
Anderson is listed in court records as the defendant in the case. The court file number is 11-CR-26-436. The prosecutor file number is 0110021516.
