Washington, D.C. (trfnews.i234.me) — Ben Shapiro, a conservative political commentator, is urging Donald Trump to pardon former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted for violating George Floyd’s civil rights in federal court.
Billionaire Elon Musk added to the conversation by sharing Shapiro’s video on X (formerly Twitter), commenting:
“Something to think about.”
🚔 Can Trump Pardon Chauvin? 🚔
While Trump can pardon Chauvin’s 20-year federal sentence, legal experts confirm that the president has no authority over Chauvin’s state sentence, which is 22.5 years for murder. Even if Trump pardons Chauvin federally, the former officer would still serve time in state custody.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has opposed the pardon push, stating that it would “set society back”.
📢 What do you think? Should Trump intervene? 📢
