Bemidji Man Faces Felony Domestic Assault Charge

Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — Jordan Dennis Norton faces a felony domestic assault charge in Beltrami County District Court.

Prosecutors allege Norton assaulted his sister during an early-morning dispute in downtown Bemidji.

The alleged incident happened on August 28, 2026, near Third Street Northwest.

The felony charge carries up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Police Respond to Sidewalk Fight

Bemidji police responded around 2:30 a.m. to a reported fight between a man and woman.

Officers found a woman identified in court records as I.N. standing on the sidewalk.

I.N. told investigators that Norton is her brother.

She said they had been together at a bar before arguing about their late mother.

I.N. alleged Norton tried to hit her first, but she ducked.

She said Norton then struck her three times.

I.N. also alleged Norton kept pushing her down when she tried to stand.

She acknowledged hitting Norton, but said she did so after he struck her.

Investigators reported seeing blood near the left side of I.N.’s face.

They also observed blood on her back and clothing.

The complaint says I.N. reported pain in the back of her head.

Police documented dried blood in her hair and a cut on the back of her head.

Officers also photographed blood on the sidewalk where the altercation allegedly happened.

An ambulance was requested because of possible head trauma.

I.N. declined medical treatment, according to the complaint.

Police located Norton near Paul Bunyan Park shortly after the reported fight.

Norton said he and his sister had argued and that she punched him.

An officer reported seeing a bump forming near Norton’s right eyebrow.

Norton later said he allowed his sister to beat him up.

He also said he did not know how I.N. had been injured.

A witness told police both people were yelling before the dispute became physical.

The witness reported seeing I.N. fall after Norton struck her.

However, the witness said they did not see the entire confrontation.

Prosecutors charged Norton under Minnesota Statute 609.2242.

The complaint says Norton has four prior qualified domestic violence-related offense convictions.

Those convictions fall within the ten-year period cited by prosecutors.

That history is used to support the felony level of the current charge.

The maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
