Roseau Man Faces 3 Felony Threat Charges
Roseau (trfnews.i234.me) — Brent Aaron Hagen faces three felony threats-of-violence charges after a September 1 incident in Roseau.
Hagen also faces one misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge in Roseau County District Court.
The case followed a disturbance report at Legends Sports Pub & Grill around 2 p.m.
Police Respond To Roseau Bar
According to the complaint, bartender Aminda Jo-Anne Schultz pointed officers toward Hagen after the reported disturbance.
Police found Hagen walking nearby with a dog, according to the filing.
The complaint says Hagen yelled at deputies while officers tried to stop him.
Michael Benjamin-Kuroor Simon drove past and told police they were speaking with the correct person.
Hagen allegedly shouted at Simon before officers told Hagen he was under arrest.
Police say Hagen continued yelling and using homophobic slurs after he was placed in a squad car.
The complaint says Hagen remained angry while officers transported him to the Roseau County Detention Center.
Complaint Details Alleged Threats
At the jail, investigators say Hagen made several statements that officers interpreted as threats.
The complaint alleges he told one officer that the officer would die.
It also alleges Hagen threatened to stomp that officer into the ground.
Officers decided to use a restraint chair because of Hagen’s behavior, the complaint states.
Police say Hagen resisted while officers moved him from the squad car.
The complaint says Hagen then directed another alleged threat toward a Roseau County deputy.
Three Felony Counts Filed
Prosecutors filed three felony counts under Minnesota’s threats-of-violence law.
One count concerns alleged threats toward staff and patrons at Legends Sports Pub & Grill.
A second count concerns alleged threats toward a Roseau police officer.
The third count concerns alleged threats toward a Roseau County deputy.
Each felony count carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
Each count also carries a possible fine of up to $10,000.
Hagen also faces a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.
That count carries up to 90 days in jail and a possible $1,000 fine.
Witnesses Describe Bar Disturbance
Witnesses at Legends described Hagen as angry and aggressive before police arrived.
Schultz told investigators the disturbance began after a discussion about a former bar owner.
The complaint says Hagen then began yelling slurs about gay and transgender people.
Simon told police he became involved while Schultz was asking Hagen to leave.
He said Hagen became increasingly angry and appeared ready to confront people inside the bar.
Schultz also reported that Hagen spit on Doc Johnson while Johnson entered the business.
Surveillance video allegedly captured Hagen threatening violence against people at the bar.
The complaint says Schultz and Simon both feared Hagen might assault them.
Roseau County Court Case
The case is filed as 68-CR-26-525 in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.
Minnesota’s threats statute is available through the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes.

Hagen is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
