Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man faces a felony domestic assault charge after a September 24 incident.

Kenneth Colter Christian Luzius, 36, is charged with domestic assault by strangulation.

The charge was filed in Beltrami County District Court under case number 04-CR-26-2371.

The felony carries up to three years in prison. It also carries a possible $5,000 fine.

Police Respond To Reported Stabbing

Bemidji police responded around 9:31 a.m. to a home on Itasca Loop NW.

Officers were initially called about a possible stabbing, according to the criminal complaint.

Luzius was found outside with a stab wound to his abdomen.

The complaint says he had blood on his torso and clothing.

Luzius initially told police he had fallen on something, according to the complaint.

Police later entered the residence and reported finding blood droplets and signs of a struggle.

Woman Reports Being Strangled

A woman identified as B.S. told investigators that Luzius entered her residence without permission.

She alleged that Luzius assaulted her and struck her with a vacuum.

B.S. also alleged that Luzius strangled her in the kitchen.

She told police she began losing consciousness during the alleged assault.

B.S. said she grabbed a knife from a dish rack and stabbed Luzius in self-defense.

Police documented injuries to her neck, arm, elbow, and knee, according to the complaint.

A witness identified as V.M. also reported seeing Luzius assault and choke B.S.

The witness told police he moved an infant child away from the confrontation for safety.

Investigators recovered a kitchen knife and collected bloody clothing as evidence.

Luzius Denies Strangling Woman

Police arrested Luzius on suspicion of felony domestic assault by strangulation.

He was taken to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center because of his abdominal injury.

The complaint says doctors determined he needed emergency surgery.

While hospitalized, Luzius denied strangling B.S.

He told police he only held her by the shoulders.

Luzius also alleged that B.S. stabbed him from behind.

Court Case Continues

The complaint lists several pending theft cases involving Luzius.

It also lists previous convictions involving assault, theft, protection-order violations, DWI, drug possession, and other offenses.

Pending cases are allegations and have not resulted in convictions.

Luzius is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
