Becker County: Bemidji Man Charged With Felony Drug Possession
Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man is facing felony drug charges after being arrested in Callaway, Minnesota, where authorities say he was loitering and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.
Dewayne Eugene Bower, age 39, of Bemidji, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, according to court documents.
On September 17, a Callaway police officer received multiple reports from City Hall about a suspicious man wandering around town and acting erratically. Witnesses said the man had been behind City Hall earlier in the day, asking about buying an old police car, and later tried to purchase another citizen’s vehicle despite being told no.
The officer identified the man as Bower, who had outstanding warrants. He was arrested after being spotted leaving a residence in Callaway. During the arrest, Bower admitted to having drug paraphernalia on him and said he wanted to give it to a female acquaintance at the home.
According to the report, Bower removed a bag from his pocket and a meth pipe from his backpack. The officer recognized a white crystalline substance in the bag as suspected methamphetamine. Both items were seized and tested, with results confirming the presence of meth. The bag reportedly weighed about one gram.
Bower was transported to the Becker County Jail. Two days later, on September 19, bail or bond was set at $25,000 without conditions, or $3,000 with standard release conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 13 before District Judge Michelle W. Lawson.
Under Minnesota law, fifth-degree controlled substance possession is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and fines up to $10,000.
