Bemidji Man Accused in Major Meth Shipment Case

BEMIDJI, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A 24-year-old Bemidji man faces a first-degree felony drug charge following an investigation into suspected methamphetamine shipments.

Shane Andrew Oehler is accused of possessing a large quantity of methamphetamine with intent to sell.

According to a Beltrami County criminal complaint, investigators intercepted a package containing approximately 474 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

The investigation involved the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force, postal inspectors, and several law enforcement agencies.

Authorities conducted a controlled package delivery before searching Oehler’s Bemidji residence on September 28, 2026.

Suspicious Package Intercepted From California

Investigators had been examining suspected drug shipments connected to Oehler.

According to court documents, authorities received information that controlled substances were arriving through the mail.

On September 25, investigators learned about another suspicious package shipped from California.

The package was addressed to Oehler at a residence on Thompson Court Northwest in Bemidji.

A certified police dog examined the package at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

The dog reportedly alerted to the package, indicating the possible presence of controlled substances.

A federal search warrant was obtained to open the shipment.

Investigators discovered approximately 474 grams of suspected methamphetamine inside, according to the complaint.

Agents Arrange Controlled Drug Delivery

Authorities developed a plan to deliver the package under law enforcement surveillance.

Before delivery, investigators removed most of the suspected methamphetamine.

They replaced the removed material with a simulated substance.

Approximately 124 grams of suspected methamphetamine remained inside the package.

Investigators also installed devices designed to detect whether someone opened or disturbed the shipment.

On September 28, agents obtained a search warrant for the Bemidji residence.

The warrant could be executed after the package entered the home or a vehicle on the property.

Drone Surveillance Tracks Package Delivery

Agents positioned a drone to monitor the residence before the controlled delivery.

According to the complaint, investigators observed Oehler, Megan Barney, and two young children leaving in a pickup.

An undercover postal agent then delivered the package to the front porch.

Drone surveillance continued while investigators watched for activity near the shipment.

When the pickup returned, agents observed the occupants entering the property.

Oehler reportedly picked up the package and placed it on the deck railing.

He handled the package several times before carrying it inside the residence.

Once the shipment entered the home, investigators authorized the search team to move forward.

Police Find Scales, Packaging Materials, and Firearms

Officers executed the search warrant and detained Oehler after he exited the residence.

According to court documents, investigators discovered the delivered package inside the kitchen.

The package was located near a large digital scale.

Agents also reported finding a smaller scale and plastic bags commonly associated with drug packaging.

During the search, investigators located a shotgun and two handguns in a bedroom.

The complaint does not list separate firearm charges arising from those discoveries.

Oehler Allegedly Describes Meth Distribution Operation

After receiving a Miranda warning, Oehler reportedly agreed to speak with investigators.

According to the complaint, he admitted ordering methamphetamine through an intermediary.

He allegedly explained that the intermediary communicated with suppliers using social media and the dark web.

Oehler reportedly sent payments using several banking applications.

He told investigators he had ordered approximately one pound of methamphetamine in the intercepted shipment.

Oehler also reportedly acknowledged receiving approximately one shipment each month.

According to court records, he estimated purchasing roughly eight pounds of methamphetamine since March 2025.

He allegedly told investigators he paid approximately $2,000 per pound.

He also reportedly claimed he earned about $6,000 per pound.

Investigators say Oehler described transferring the drugs to another person for distribution.

He allegedly said he sometimes hid methamphetamine in a wooded area to keep it away from children.

First-Degree Drug Charge Carries Severe Penalties

Prosecutors charged Oehler with first-degree sale of a controlled substance.

The criminal complaint cites Minnesota Statute 152.021, subdivision 1(1).

The charge alleges possession with intent to sell at least 100 grams of methamphetamine.

Under Minnesota law, the alleged offense carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

A conviction could also result in a fine of up to $1 million.

The complaint lists a mandatory minimum prison term of 65 months or a greater applicable presumptive guidelines sentence.

Any sentence would depend on a conviction and the court’s application of sentencing law.

Beltrami County Court Case

The case is filed in Beltrami County District Court under case number 04-CR-26-2406.

The prosecutor’s file number is 0040093603.

Investigators reported that a field test of the suspected methamphetamine returned a presumptive positive result.

The supplied complaint does not include final laboratory results.

Additional case information may be available through Minnesota Court Records Online.

The charge remains an allegation. Oehler is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
