Bemidji, Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — Alacio R. Turney of Bemidji is facing new criminal charges after a chase on January 20.

What court records allege

According to court documents, officers tried to stop Turney during a traffic stop in Bemidji.

Investigators say he took off instead of pulling over.

The pursuit went north on Minnesota Highway 89.

Authorities say it continued into the Red Lake Reservation.

Police on the reservation took over the pursuit, court records state.

They used spike strips to stop the vehicle, according to the complaint.

Spike strips are a road tool that can flatten tires.

Court records say Turney was arrested after the stop.

Audio reported during the chase

Court documents say a phone was on speaker during the pursuit.

The sound of a woman screaming could be heard, according to investigators.

Records say Turney was the only person in the car.

Investigators did not report another passenger in the vehicle.

What Turney told officers

Turney told officers he fled because he did not know what to do.

He also said he was having a mental breakdown, the complaint states.

Those statements are part of the allegations in the charging documents.

Charges filed

Turney is charged with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.

He is also charged with gross misdemeanor DWI.

Additional counts include refusal to submit to testing.

He is also charged with driving after cancellation.

Prosecutors say the charges stem from the same January 20 incident.

What readers should know

Criminal charges are allegations.

A complaint is not a conviction.

Turney is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Future hearings and outcomes will be decided in the court process.

  1. He’s a two bit loser and always will be. He’s been given ample opportunity to turn life around but turns to crime and drugs. It’s people like him that need to stay the hell off the road driving drunk with no insurance. He will get slap on the wrist yet again. Sickening
