Port Hope Township (trfnews.i234.me) — A fatal structure fire north of Bemidji destroyed a home Monday night.
The Bemidji Fire Department got the call around 8:47 p.m.
Fire crews went to the 12000 block of Peterson Lake Road NE.
The area is about 15 miles north of Bemidji.
What crews found
Firefighters arrived to heavy flames and thick smoke.
The home was fully involved when crews reached the scene.
The building was also starting to collapse.
Firefighters reported the structure had fallen toward the basement.
Crews focused on putting out the main fire fast.
They also worked to limit damage around the site.
The department said the home was a total loss.
One person was found dead
After the fire was under control, crews searched the home.
They found one deceased person inside.
Officials have not released the victim’s identity.
The person’s name may come after the family notice.
The department did not report other injuries.
No cause has been released at this time.
A long fight to knock down the fire
A total of 28 firefighters responded, the department said.
Crews worked for about six hours on the scene.
They spent hours on hot spots and deep smoke.
They also checked for fire spread after the collapse.
