Becker County: Waubun Man Faces 3 Felonies
BECKER COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A Waubun man is facing three domestic-related felony charges after an incident that occurred on November 15. The case was investigated by the White Earth Tribal Police Department, according to court records.
Lawrence William Goodman Jr., 23, has been charged in Becker County District Court with violating a no-contact order within 10 years of two or more prior convictions. This offense is listed as a felony under Minnesota law.

Goodman also faces two additional felonies: domestic assault and domestic assault by strangulation. Prosecutors say the incident involved violence that meets the legal definition of felony domestic assault.
The full criminal complaint was not available online at the time of publication. However, the charges together show that Goodman allegedly assaulted a victim in Becker County despite an active no-contact order. Prosecutors say he engaged in conduct that qualifies as felony-level domestic assault and included strangulation.
Investigators say the no-contact order was in place to protect the alleged victim. A violation with two or more prior convictions can be charged as a felony. Such charges can bring significant prison time if a judge later orders a conviction.
Minnesota law defines domestic assault by strangulation as intentionally impeding breathing or blood circulation. This can be done by applying pressure to the throat or neck, or by blocking the nose or mouth. Officials say the offense is treated seriously because it can quickly lead to severe injury or death.
The case is being prosecuted by the Becker County Attorney’s Office.
According to court records, Goodman is represented by Detroit Lakes attorney Annie Elizabeth Jensen. Both sides will next argue the case in Becker County District Court.
A future court date for Goodman had not been listed as of the latest public filing. Additional updates will appear in online court records if new hearings are scheduled.
