BECKER COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — Alan Steven Walker, 30, of Moorhead, was sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fleeing a peace officer and gross misdemeanor DWI test refusal, following a high-speed chase that spanned multiple counties. Two additional felony fleeing charges and a gross misdemeanor charge of driving after his license was canceled were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
On January 7, 2025, at approximately 1:43 p.m., a Minnesota State Trooper attempted to stop Walker’s black Chevy Impala on Highway 10 in Detroit Lakes for suspected cellphone use while driving. Walker initially pulled into a gas station but then fled, leading officers from the State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources, and Becker County Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit through Becker and Clay counties. During the chase, Walker reached speeds up to 110 mph, evaded multiple PIT maneuvers, and drove across lawns and snowbanks before being stopped by a successful PIT maneuver in Clay County.
Upon arrest, officers noted a strong odor of alcohol, and an open can of Miller Lite was found on the driver’s side floorboard. Walker refused to provide a blood or urine sample at the jail. His driving privileges had been canceled on September 24, 2024, as inimical to public safety due to a prior DUI charge.
On April 29, 2025, Judge Michelle Lawson sentenced Walker to 17 months in prison at St. Cloud, stayed for four years, for the felony fleeing charge. He was ordered to serve 113 days in the Becker County Jail, with credit for time served, and placed on supervised probation for four years. Conditions include abstaining from alcohol and non-prescribed mood-altering chemicals, completing a comprehensive assessment with aftercare, attending a MADD impact panel, and completing 30 days of electronic alcohol monitoring each year during probation. He was fined $1,000 plus $160 in court fees.
For the gross misdemeanor DWI test refusal charge, Walker received a 364-day jail sentence, with 251 days stayed for four years, and credit for 113 days served. He was fined an additional $1,250 plus $30 in fees, bringing his total fines and fees to $2,440.
