Becker County Man Charged in Domestic Assault Case
BECKER COUNTY, MN ( trfnews.i234.me ) — A Ponsford man has been charged with felony domestic assault in Becker County District Court following a violent dispute earlier this fall.
According to court records, 26-year-old Matthew Robert Webster was charged after an incident on September 8. Officers from the White Earth Police Department responded to a home in Waubun following reports of a domestic dispute.
The victim, who shares a son with Webster, told officers that Webster became upset during a discussion about their child’s birthday party. During the argument, Webster allegedly grabbed her shirt and ripped it. He also tried to hit her and pushed her to the ground. Fearing for her safety, the woman locked herself and their son in her vehicle until help arrived.
Authorities were unable to find Webster that night. However, on September 26, the Becker County Sheriff’s Office arrested him in White Earth. Court documents show that Webster has several past domestic-related convictions. These include a 2019 felony second-degree assault and multiple domestic offenses in 2023.
Judge documents state that Webster’s bail was set at $30,000 without conditions, or $15,000 bond, or $1,500 cash with conditions. Those conditions include having no contact with the victim. A domestic abuse no-contact order remains in effect.
Records indicate that Webster posted $1,500 bail on October 11 and was released from custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 27 before Becker County District Judge Gretchen Thilmony.
